Welcome Sharon!

We're thrilled to welcome Sharon to the Missions Hub as our new Mobilization Coordinator!

When she first went overseas for university, Sharon had no idea if there would be any Christians or churches there. In God’s provision, she found a thriving student ministry there along with several gospel-centred churches! During her 7 years in the Middle East as a student leader and later staff worker, God cultivated her heart for making disciples for Christ in all the earth. Though she was planning to stay for many more years, God called her back to Canada for a season (mainly to get married to her now-husband, Paulo!). Sharon is thankful for how the Lord worked in and through her while overseas. She’s excited to serve at the Missions Hub and walk alongside students in Toronto as they seek to discern and obey God’s calling for them in his kingdom work.

Please pray for Sharon as she begins her role! Welcome her in the comments below & this weekend at Luke 10:2! ✨

As a student leader and later intern with Power to Change at the University of Toronto, Julia discovered a love for shepherding that reflects God's heart to not only call upon his sheep and be reconciled to them, but to send them out across the world in global missions. Being part of the Missions Hub's 2018 Perspectives class caused her to start praying seriously about her role in God's global work. Updates to Missions Hub Ministries Regarding COVID-19

In light of the current Coronavirus pandemic and in response to the Government of Ontario and Toronto Public Health changes, we have come up with the following recommendations and next steps. As the situation continues to change, so may our response.

  • Prayer meetings and all gatherings will no longer be in person, but will continue online over Google Hangouts or Zoom, since we are recommending against internal in-person group meetings of any size. If it is critical to meet face to face with anyone, the Center for Disease Control recommends that people remain a minimum distance of 3 feet apart.

  • To mitigate the spread of this virus, Knox has implemented social distancing measures and will not be entertaining visitors in the Missions Hub space. We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause, but trust that you understand this decision

    1. If you are displaying symptoms of any illness, recently returned from international travels, or been in contact with anyone who has tested positive for COVID-19, please stay at home. Contact Telehealth Ontario or your doctor as needed if symptoms of COVID-19 (fever, cough, difficulty breathing) appear as you monitor your health.

In doing the above, we hope to love our world by limiting the spread of the virus, not out of fear but out of love, to preserve the wellbeing and health of each other and our city. Furthermore, we desire to love each other by creating online spaces to stay remotely connected with each other and continuing to care for those who are more directly affected. Social distancing measures do not mean social isolation, if you need prayer or care, please reach out to us!In times like this, it may be hard to understand why this is happening or make sense of the chaos, but we want to encourage you to always remember that our God is still sovereign and we exhort you to continue to pray over this situation!Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.- Philippians 4:4-7

Background:

The Missions Hub exists to support and encourage Canadian Christian mission and sending around the world. Located at Knox Church, in downtown Toronto, the Missions Hub brings together students and missionaries, campus groups and missions agencies, Christian professionals and churches to work together for the Kingdom. In its first years of operation, the Missions Hub involved 30+ missions agencies and engaged thousands of students. By providing co-working space, and hosting events, trainings, prayer days, and meetings, the Missions Hub has given us an exciting glimpse of what can be accomplished when we work together in God’s Global Mission (missionshub.ca)

From that first year, it was decided that the Missions Hub would build on the passionate work that had begun by focusing very intentionally on missions discipleship. Located across from the U of T campus, we recognized the opportunity on our doorstep. Five missions agencies and one church (OMF, TEAM, SIM, AVANT, Wycliffe Bible Translators, Knox World Mission) set out to work together through the Missions Hub to collaborate with multiple other missions agencies, churches and campus groups. In 2016, the Missions Hub became devoted to partnering with campus groups, to support the growth of students and to share opportunities and resources for global missions. To date, we have collaborated with students from Intervarsity, Power to Change, Chinese Christian Fellowship, and 10+ other campus groups and churches.

The Missions Hub believes that as campus groups are deeply engaging students, they are preparing Christian students for lifelong ministry. The Missions Hub wants those students to be well-resourced in mission on their campus and in the world. Our prayer is that the Missions Hub will be a catalyst for missional engagement.

Who: Student leaders, church leaders, and lay leaders from across Canada, as recommended by their fellowship

When: 1.5 hour sessions, monthly  (usually the last Monday of the month, EST 7:30-9pm)

Live Called 2018

“ONLY LET EACH PERSON LEAD THE LIFE THAT THE LORD HAS ASSIGNED TO HIM, AND TO WHICH GOD HAS CALLED HIM…”1 CORINTHIANS 7:17A (ESV)

We were honoured to have a gathering of committed Christ-followers join us to talk about how we can steward our vocations locally and globally on Nov 17. Break out conversations included Healthcare, Education, Social Services, Engineering, Business, Accounting and Finance. We were inspired by the stories of God's faithfulness to our world which were told throughout the day, and encouraged to step deeper into obedience, trusting God deeply as He gives us more faith. Here is a prayer that was shared by Don Edwards:Disturb us, Lord, when we are too well pleased with ourselves, When our dreams have come true Because we have dreamed too little, When we arrived safely Because we sailed too close to the shore. Disturb us, Lord, when With the abundance of things we possess We have lost our thirst For the waters of life; Having fallen in love with life, We have ceased to dream of eternity And in our efforts to build a new earth, We have allowed our vision Of the new Heaven to dim. Disturb us, Lord, to dare more boldly, To venture on wider seas Where storms will show Your mastery; Where losing sight of land, We shall find the stars. We ask You to push back The horizons of our hopes; And to push into the future In strength, courage, hope, and love. (Prayer of Sir Francis Drake)

The hugest of thanks goes out to all of the panelists, speakers, band, planning committee, and Knox Church, and all who volunteered their time and talents and carried the vision of this event with us! Live Called could not have happened without you.

Our Common Faith, Our Uncommon Calling

On April 7th and 8th the Missions Hub hosted 'Our Common Faith, Our Uncommon Calling' in collaboration with a number of Mission agencies. The event profiled the journeys of faith and perseverance of 4 Christian leaders from Asia and Africa. Their testimonies served as encouragement for the participants as they journey forward with their own callings. This event is part of an overall effort at the Missions Hub to support people as they explore God’s missional calling on their lives.

Alpha Collaboration: Planting the seeds...

The Missions Hub is excited to be sparking collaboration between mission groups, campus ministries and the local Church. As part of this, we were thrilled to bring together campus ministry leaders, Knox Church pastoral staff and Alpha Canada's National Director of Campus Ministries to explore how these groups can work together to bring Alpha to the U of T campus. We love what we do!

U of Together

The Missions Hub was delighted to be part of the 2017 University of Toronto Missions Week, called the Relevant Series (relevantseries.com).  Each day of Missions Week, the Missions Hub hosted between 30 - 45 students, campus ministry staff and well respected apologists for breakfast, worship, prayer and a devotional time here at Knox Church.  We were so grateful to be able to support such a passionate, missional group as they led this great outreach.  We are thankful to SIM, TEAM, SEND, OMF and Wycliffe Bible Translators for each sponsoring a breakfast during the week.
